Ms.
Sword received her Juris Doctorate from George Washington
University Law School located in Washington, DC in 2002. She
previously earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with Class
Honors concentrating in Political Science from the
University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1999.
As a law student in 2000, Ms. Sword was selected as a law
clerk for the Department of Justice in Washington, DC in the
Federal Torts Claims Act Office. As a Department of Justice
law clerk, Ms. Sword was involved in the trial preparation
for the Waco trial. Later in 2001, Ms. Sword was a law clerk
for the law offices of Gary, William, Parenti, et. al
located in Stuart, Florida mainly working in the medical
malpractice department.
In 1997, as an undergraduate student at the University of
Michigan, Ms. Sword was chosen to be a White House Intern in
the Domestic Policy Council responsible for drafting
memorandum on important domestic issues that would be
presented weekly to the President.
After Ms. Sword earned her Juris Doctorate she was employed
as a deputy prosecutor in the Madison County Prosecutor’s
Office in Anderson, Indiana. As a deputy prosecutor, she
handled all aspects of criminal trial. Ms. Sword prosecuted
and tried felony and misdemeanor cases.
Before Ms. Sword joined the firm in 2007, she worked as a
litigation associate at a very large firm, Miller, Canfield,
Paddock and Stone, PLC, located in Detroit, Michigan. She
practiced primarily in the areas of personal injury,
commercial real estate, shareholder litigation, and general
contract disputes.
Ms. Sword possesses multi-jurisdictional licenses to
practice law. She was admitted to practice in all Florida
state courts in 2007. In February 2004, she was admitted to
the Michigan State Bar as well as the federal court for the
United States Eastern District of Michigan. Ms. Sword was
also admitted to practice in 2003 to both the Indiana State
Bar and the federal courts for the United States District
Court for the Southern and Northern Districts of Indiana.
Ms. Sword enjoys reading, exercising, spending time with
family, and watching football and basketball games. She is
married with one child.
