The partners of RICE & ROSE, Paul E. Rice, Jr. and James L. Rose, devote considerable time each year to community activities and this year is no different. The attorneys have spent more than a decade devoted to some of the activities and have assumed some new causes recently as well.

Paul E. Rice, Jr. currently serves as chairman of the City of Daytona Beach Nuisance Abatement Board. Mr. Rice was appointed by the Mayor to this Board which hears evidence, declares nuisances, imposes penalties and revokes occupational licenses and certificates of occupancy for nuisance properties within the city. Mr. Rice was recently appointed to serve as chairman of the Volusia County Bar Association Family Law Committee. Mr. Rice is the immediate past captain of the Daytona Beach Quarterback Club and is an active member of the Daytona Beach Track Club, Daytona Bicycle Club, Volusia County Gator Club and the Daytona Beach and Halifax Area Chamber of Commerce. 

James L. Rose is a graduate of Leadership Daytona and remains an active member of the organization. He is also an active member of the Tiger Bay Club, Daytona Quarterback Club, the UCF Alumni Association, Volusia County Gator Club and the Daytona Beach and Halifax Area Chamber of Commerce. He was elected as President of the Gator Club of Volusia County and installed at the annual Gator Gathering on June 5, 2004 in front of 600 Gator fans who had come to see Coach Ron Zook talk about the University of Florida football team. Mr. Rose's term will last for two years.

He was recently elected to be on the Board of Adjustments and Appeals of the City of Ormond Beach by Commissioner Scott Selis. The Board of Adjustments and Appeals does hearing determinations of the chief billing official where an individual may allege there may be error. In addition, the Board also hears appeals and requests for variances to any of the City's adopted standard codes. Mr. Rose serves on the board along with four other members.
