Paul Rice Receives Board Certification
in Marital and Family Law

Paul E. Rice, Jr. Esquire, a partner in the Rice & Rose Law Firm, recently became board certified as a specialist in marital and family law by the Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization and Education. The board certification process requires an applicant to have a substantial amount of litigation and trial experience in divorce and family law and involves an extensive background search including recommendations from family law judges and fellow lawyers. If the Florida Bar Board determines the applicant to be qualified, then he or she has to successfully pass a day long examination, which is administered once a year in Tampa, Florida. In 2008, sixteen lawyers sat for the exam, but only six passed. Thus, Mr. Rice was one of only six lawyers in the State of Florida to become board certified as a specialist in marital and family in 2008.

Mr. Rice has been practicing marital and family law in Florida for almost 25 years. He represents parties in divorce, post-divorce modification and paternity cases. In the divorce arena, he concentrates on cases involving substantial assets and investments as well as valuations of businesses and professional practices. Mr. Rice has also handled numerous cases involving custody of children, relocation of children, child support and alimony.

As an extension of his divorce practice, Mr. Rice drafts and reviews prenuptial agreements. While the legal fees for preparing and reviewing a prenuptial agreement may seem expensive to the prospective spouse, this cost may only be a fraction of the attorney’s fees for a divorcing spouse in a contested case with no such agreement.

Mr. Rice is available for consultation in Rice & Rose’s principal office in Daytona Beach, Florida as well as in the firm’s Flagler office. Telephone consultations are also available for the convenience of the client.
