RICE & ROSE Office Building Enhances Seabreeze Blvd

The RICE & ROSE law office building design, located at 222 Seabreeze Boulevard, Daytona Beach, is reminiscent of the architecture of famed Florida architect Addison Mizner, who was prominent in the Boca Raton and Palm Beach communities during the Florida “boom” in the 1920's. The style is probably best characterized as Mediterranean or, simply, “Florida” because of the popularization of the style in Florida by Mr. Mizner. The structure is two stories and approximately 10,500 square feet under roof.

On the exterior noteworthy architectural features include a tile roof, wrought iron railings and fencing, arched columns and a domed tower. An enclosed courtyard provides client parking in front of the East facing structure. The grounds are heavily landscaped.

On the interior the building is equally feature filled. On the first floor are six conference/meeting rooms providing accommodations ranging from a cozy office setting for three people to a conference room seating twenty eight or more. Also on the first floor are a lobby/reception area, administrative offices, a kitchen suitable for necessary catering, rest rooms, a four bay garage and a file storage room with rolling floor to ceiling shelving.

There is considerable woodwork throughout both floors and a staircase with an ornate wrought iron railing connecting the first floor to the second. An elevator affords alternative passage between the floors. All of the wrought iron, inside and out, has been handcrafted specifically for the project.

On the second floor are eight/nine attorney offices, work area for an additional sixteen staff members, sound proofed and centralized print/fax/copy rooms at each end, a second “sit-in” kitchen and restrooms. The principal offices on the front of the building have fully functional balconies.

The building is furnished in large part with new furnishings selected with the assistance of designer Cile Rice, well known local designer and mother of partner, Paul Rice. A second designer was enlisted to assist with interior architectural design, such as the numerous interior columns, paint and tile colors, woodwork, doors and the highly visible receptionist station. A consultant was retained to assist with exterior paint color selection.

A new telephone system and computer network, both with “high speed” access and expansive capabilities have been installed. There is also a sound system. Three of the conference rooms have been “wired” for computer power and Internet access at the conference tables. It is believed that RICE & ROSE is the first local law firm with such computer access and probably one of the first, if not the first, local business with such an option.

Numerous goals were sought to be achieved by the construction of the new facility. Of course it was essential that the firm, which has been steadily growing, have sufficient space to work, at least for the near future. It was just as important that the space configuration, technology infrastructure and amenities could accommodate the effective provision of sophisticated legal services. Finally, by selecting Seabreeze Boulevard, a “beach side” location in the former town of Seabreeze, now Daytona Beach, the firm hoped to not only secure a convenient location but contribute to a renaissance of Seabreeze Boulevard and the surrounding beach side area.
