Paul Rice, seen here chairing the Nuisance Abatement Board
at its November 29, 2007 meeting, was recently re-appointed
by newly elected Daytona Beach Mayor Glenn Ritchey. Mr. Rice
has been the chairman since 2000.

The Board meets several times a year in the Daytona Beach
City Commission Chamber and hears cases brought by the
police department alleging that a property is a nuisance due
to repeat drug or prostitution activities. The Board is
quasi-judicial in nature and has the authority to level
sanctions against nuisance properties, including closure for
up to one year. As chairman, Mr. Rice conducts the hearings
and rules on motions and admissibility of evidence.
